MUD and kids (or gaming and kids)
My wife just gave birth to our 4th daughter on Thursday the 7th, and we're still adjusting (and probably will continue to adjust for a while). But since it is our 4th daughter, it's not a difficult adjustment. Once you have more than two kids, the rest are just...more kids.
Anyway, I was once a hardcore gamer, spending 90% of my free time playing some kind of game - be it video games or MUD. When you have a wife and children, however, it's really not conducive to a healthy family life to ignore your family to game. But it's also important to have some personal time here and there, and so I tend to spend it on the computer either when the kids are supposed to be in bed or haven't gotten up yet, or whenever I can squeeze in a few hours.
So I was just curious how many other parents or family people still MUD now that they have kids, and what kind of things they run into as part of it. For example - it's a little difficult to be in a large group of people in the middle of some kind of raid when you have a 3 year old who needs help using the bathroom and interrupts your gameplay. Sometimes I find singleplayer games are easier because most of them can be paused.
Also, I have an 8 year old and a 5 year old who always want to play video games, or watch me play. My 8 year old isn't quite adept enough at reading to handle a MUD yet, I think...but I'm tempted to start her on one so that she can learn to type and read faster. So um...yeah - feedback anyone?

I think that mudding can help typing speed and reading although not always english and grammar ^^; but still though you might want to be careful... Some muds are harsh or don't like children playing and some others might have inappropriate things in them... If you can find a nice and easy mud though they might like it and even have fun!.... And it'll be cheaper than WoW >_<
Oooops roleplaying might help some too maybe...?
