Changes Log

Welcome to the Meat MUD Classic official Changes Log. This list will
change as improvements are added. Please add suggestions to the
comments section or the Ideas Bulletin Board on the MUD.

* King Welmar's Castle and surrounding area has been imported from CircleMUD 3.0 and added to Meat MUD Classic (part of the original Meat MUD) and can be found due east from the East Gate of Midgaard.

* Rome has been imported from CircleMUD 3.0 and added to Meat MUD Classic (it was part of the original Meat MUD) and can be found to the north of the Tropical Sea, west from Midgaard's river.

Players will now be sent to the Void while idle, however they will not be forced to quit. This has been put back in place to avoid pfile corruption.

Thieves can now learn the 'heighten senses' skill at level 45.

Scan, staves, scrolls and wands are no longer "skills" that need to be practice, all players have access to these skills upon entering the game regardless of level or ability.

Practicing spells and skills no longer costs gold coins, only practices.

Level 45 clerics can now learn the 'remove polymorph' spell, which is also now part of the Midgaard Healer's spell repertoire.  I assume no explanation is needed for what the spell does.

Disarm has been disabled on NPCs and monsters - your character will no longer be disarmed in combat.

Score sheet descriptions for character stats (STR, INT, WIS, DEX, CON) have been updated and are now more accurate. 13 in any statistic is now "Average" and becomes increasingly complimentary with each additional point.

Hunger and thirst messages will now only be displayed in the score sheet and do not adversely affect character regeneration rates. However, regeneration rates will be dramatically improved if your character is not hungry or thirsty. Banish hunger & thirst is still available for purchase from the Midgaard Secretary and will make these regeneration rate improvements permanent.

Baba Yaga's Prismatic Orb wand can be used several times per round of battle - this is now the most powerful magic artifact in the game

Cool-off periods on casting spells and performing skills has been reduced - it is now possible to perform spells and skills in combat more than once per round

Level restrictions on following and grouping have been disabled - any player character may group up with any other player character without restriction

Cursed items that cannot be dropped may now be placed into a container for easier disposal - this coincides with the system on the original Meat MUD

Experience per hit in combat is now a random amount from 1-3 points

Player characters no longer lose experience for failing to flee from combat, and successful fleeing will only cost 5 experience points instead of 25 points

Characters that have been polymorphed into creatures without the ability to speak, or have been muted, may now use public channels such as CHAT to communicate until the spell wears off or is removed

Wimpy will now force your character to flee regardless of how many commands you have in queu waiting to be performed

Titles of heirarchy within the ranks of "Immortal" have been changed to match the titles of the original Meat MUD

Stunned and mortally wounded player characters may now use public communication channels such as CHAT to call for assistance

Special attacks when polymorphed into a dragon, harpy, etc. no longer affect group members, your mount, or your group members' mounts

Sneak now generates a message when its affects wear off

Spells with incorrect messages such as Aquiles Power, Antimagic Shell and others have been corrected

Multiple deaths bug caused by spellcasting mobiles has been corrected

Mobiles now use scrolls smarter - beneficial scrolls will be used on the mob, attack scrolls will be used against player characters

The Mayor will no longer perform his duties while asleep / blinded

Scan now takes directions as arguments (ie: SCAN NORTH)

Offensive area affect spells such as blizzard, meteor, etc. should no longer affect allies

Objects can now modify age 

Corrected bug with the 'scan' skill

Increased duration of period between area resets from 2-6 minutes to 5-15 minutes (rough estimate)

Corrected spell-cast typo bug

Corrected pfile ownership bug

Changed 2000 exp per level requirement to 1000 exp per level (average player should be able to gain a level in approximately 1-2 hours now)

Determined current 1000 exp-per-level system is superior to classic DIKU/MERC system of fixed exp per mob + exp gained per hit.

Fixed practices per level - 18 Wis only provided 4 practices, not 5

Figured out why mobs only give up a few gold coins instead of 100s or 1000s like they used to in Envy - reverted back to Envy stock code

Whirlwind should no longer attack group members, mounts, pets, or charmed followers

Mana increases each level have been improved for spellcasters

You can now use the "kill" command while fighting a mob to change target and attack a different mob

Putting items in containers now allows you to carry more items in your inventor

Wearing equipment now subtracts from the weight you are carrying

Brew and scribe have been completely revamped

Some weapons can now be worn as equipment - more to come

Special attacks from polymorph races (dragon, harpy, etc) no longer affect grouped players, pets, charmed creatures and mounts

There is a new message when the "sneak" skill wears off

Fixed messages on Antimagic Shell, Aquiles power, and other spells

Walk-in and walk-out custom messages are now available to Heros

Spellcasting and classic Quest weapons have been created

The 'blizzard' spell has been added for Mages

Scribe and brew has been fixed

Containers only repop contents if they are in their original location

Cone of Silence can be broken by the One Ring's giggle

Cone of Silence and Mute now blocks emotes

Room regen rates have been fixed

Grouping level restrictions have been removed

Rescue now can be used on characters who are not in your group

Bug with Crystalmir lake fish corrected

Many typos corrected (more are out there, keep reporting them)

Wands used by mobs are used effectively and to the mobs advantage

Irongrip, Disarm, 3rd, 4th & 5th attack & short blade skills available to Warriors

Additional skills dispersed among classes (2nd, 3rd, 4th attack, scan, etc)

Backstab restored to Thief class

Completed Baba Yaga's wandering hut

MOTD and IMOTD are now separated from help.are and support color

When mounted your score sheet now displays your mount

"Some gold coins" bug corrected

Hobgoblin king duplicate fixed

Auctions can now be performed at any time, and the auctioneer no longer gouges you with auction fees for failed auctions

Bulletin boards now display subject and "Autor" has been replaced with "Author"

Inner warmth spell messages have been corrected

Multiple typos have been fixed throughout the world

Short blades have been added to warrior skills

Guilds have been added for the Jester and Ranger classes

Disarm now requires humanoid monsters to wield a weapon for success (non-humanoids will still disarm as usual)

Corrected ";" character bug

Gave the healer additional spells, now offers spells to PCs up to level 50

Returned duration of game time to default speed in preparation of vehicle, vampire and werewolf related code

Game now gives char exp for successful strike during combat and for most successful spells cast or skills performed

New Area: The Subway Ruins is in BETA testing phase

Revised Vampire code - implemented vampire curse system - corrected exorcise spell

Implemented combat meter and reverted to original Merc damage message system

Determined the only name should be MEAT MUD CLASSIC instead of the confusing Fated to End Sometime / Meat MUD Classic

Fixed "pload" bug (isolated occurrence)

Implemented banished hunger/thirst - go see the Secretary

Fixed bug affecting piles of treasure - they now generate a proper amount of gold

Fixed bug affecting the level, cost and other values of objects that do not load on mobiles (the level was set to 1 by default - now reads from the .are file the set level)

Fixed bug preventing the use of the "addeffect" command in OEDIT

Fixed bug preventing AC from being manually set while using OEDIT on TYPE_ARMOR

Fixed OEDIT to allow object level, AC value and cost to be set manually, fixed the code to choose the *.are file's level setting as default for objects that load in rooms or containers
